Radiation describes any process in which energy travels through a medium (even space), ultimately to be absorbed by another body
The third mode of energy transfer between an object and its environment is via electromagnetic waves (visible light is a kind of electromagnetic wave). Energy transferred in this way is often called thermal radiation
The heat from sun reaches the earth by the process of radiation after traveling through millions of kilometers of vacuum .due to the absence of material medium, the transmission of heat by conduction and convection is impossible. Just as, light heat radiation can pass through vacuum .other properties of heat radiation are also similar to those of light and it also forms a part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
